I understand that versions of the Stop Process are used by the Optimum Health Clinic, Gupta and the Lightning Process. I haven’t done any of these programmes, but I understand they are slightly different according to who’s method you use.
I learnt about the Stop Process via a book written by a recovered ME sufferer and made available for free. Go to http://arationalapproach.com/ for details of how to get your free copy.
I love this free sharing of information to help others recover. It’s what I’m aiming to do with this blog.
I used the Stop Process to work on thought patterns about my dizziness. I did this at the same time as I started increasing my salt intake, so I don’t know how much each one contributed, but I certainly felt better, and managed to get rid of my dizziness.
I encourage you to read the book, it will help with your understanding of how the brain influences our symptoms and give you some helpful tools to use. I still sometimes use the ideas behind the Stop Process if I find myself getting into an unhelpful pattern of thoughts, e.g. recently I was riding my electric bike and started to feel a bit dizzy and spaced out. My thoughts went something like “what if this gets worse? What if I can’t balance on my bike? How will I collect my son from school?” I recognised this was not helping, told myself to stop, took a deep breath, and continued to focus on my breath, and told myself I was going to be OK, I could do the school run and that I would have an extra rest when I got home. It’s a while since I read the book, so I’m probably not doing it exactly as described, but what I am doing is working for me, and that’s what matters.
